Due to Motorsport Australia conducting a review of safety on tarmac rallies Australia-wide, they have paused issuing permits for 2022.
The Make Smoking History Targa West and Targa South West will return in 2023. Targa West has always been the leader in rally safety, and we are very proud of what we have achieved.

This rally sprint is a real drivers stage with plenty of spectator points to see the action—competition from 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm.
A Tarmac Rally is a unique form of motorsport where Tarmac Rally Cars compete on roads closed for competition. Cars start at 30-second intervals and race against the clock, with the winner being the fastest car over all stages. Cars are grouped into classes, and there are categories for full Competition, Targa 130, Targa 165 and even an Electric Vehicle category.
A wide variety of cars compete, including Classics like Ford Escorts and Mustangs, Toranas and Commodores to more modern turbocharged Mitsubishi Evos, Subaru WRXs and Nissan GTRs and even a range of Electric Vehicles like the Tesla Model 3 Performance. And what event would be complete without an exotic or two. What about a Ferrari 488 Spider or Porsche GT3 RS?
Spectating is FREE!!
Targa West is a unique Motorsport event that brings all the action to you. Unlike traditional motorsport, where you have to go to a race track to watch, competitors in the Make Smoking History Targa West visit cities, towns and shires from Whiteman Park, Ellenbrook, Parkverville, Kalamunda, Toodyay, Chittering, Bullsbrook, Malaga and Perth.
In 2022 we will be running just in Ellenbrook, Perth City and Malaga.
You get to spectate for FREE…in fact, you may not even need to leave your property!! Maps of the stages are available here. There are many vantage points for Spectating; for further details, see our Spectators info here.
The Make Smoking History Targa West is a SMOKE FREE EVENT.
